Wisdom From Six Fountains - Part 2

08/15/11

" The happiness which we seem to derive from the fulfillment of a desire, is not so much from the fulfillment, but from the tiny gap between it and the sprouting of the next desire.  It is that interval of no desire which yields the happiness, that can ripen into bliss."               K M G

Hello  to   you    all !                                                          Somvaar  Suprabhaath !

At the outset, wish you all a  Happy  Independence  Day   of   Bharat !

The  Centennial topic of the previous week, will be continued and concluded today.  Conveniently, the break came at a point of time that demarcates the  pre-Christian  era  from the present one.  The  'Three Fountains' this week, begin with the Christian era.  Here they are :

                 W I S D OM     F R O M     S I X     F O U N T A I N S             Part  2.

      4.   SERMONS  OF  CHRIST  :

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. * * * * *  Blessed are the pure inb heart: for they shall see God. * * * *   Blessed are the  peacemakers:  for they shall be called the children of God.* * * * * Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake :  for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. * * * * * And you shall love the Lord thy God, with all your heart, with all your soul,  with all your mind, and, with all yor strength.
* * * *  You shall love your neighbour as yourself.* * * *  Do not kill. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not bear false witness. * * * * Take heed that you do not give alms making it a show; otherwise, you will have no reward of your Father in heaven. ....  When you give alms, let your left hand not know what your right hand does. * * * *  What is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul ? * * * *  In olden times it was said: You should not commit adultery. But I say to you, that whosoever looks at a woman with lustfull eyes, has committed adultery already in his heart. * * * * *
It has been said, an eye for an eye, and a tooth for  a tooth. But I say,  do not resist evil: but whosoever smites you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. * * * *  He who follows Me, does not walk in darkness. ..... Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. .....  All things, whatsoever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. * * * *  I am the way, the truth and the life; no man comes to the Father, but by me. * * * * The light of the body is the eye. If therefore, your eye be controlled, thy whole body shaall be full of light. * * * *  No man can serve two masters. For, either he will hate the one and love the other, or else, he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and  Mammon.
* * * * Render to Caesar the things that are Caeser's,  and to God the things that are God's.  ... It is written that man shall not live by bread alone. but by every word of God.* * * *  For, whosoever exalts himself, shall be abased; and he that humbles himself, shall be exalted. .... With God  all things are possible..... Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and goodwill towards men...... Greater love has no man than this, that a man lays down his life  for his friends.

       5.   PROPHET MOHAMMAD (570 to 632 AD)   SPEAKS :

Invocation:  " In the name of Allah, the Beneficient, the Merciful, Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, the Beneficient, the Merciful, Owner of the Day of Judgement, Thee (alone) we worship; Thee (alone) we ask for help. Show us the straight path, the path of those whom thou hast favored. Not the path of those who earn Thine anger, nor of those who go astray".
Islam (in essence) is:  Abstinence and obedience. An amiable disposition. Belief in God, and then keeping straight on. That you give food to the hungry. and extend greetings to all whom you know, and whom you know not. Purity and hospitality. The distinctive virtue of Islam  is  modesty.
A perfect Muslim is he from whose tongue and hands, mankind is safe * * * *  The greatest enemies of God are those who are entered into Islam, and do acts of infidelity, and, who without cause, shed the blood of men. .....  Do unto all men as you would wish them to have done unto you. ...... When you speak, speak the truth; perform when you promise; discharge your trust; commit not fornification; be chaste;  have no impure desires; withhold your hands from striking, and from taking that which is unlawful and bad....... He who believes in one God, and the life beyond, let him not injure his neighbours.  * * * *  *  Assist any person who is oppressed, whether Muslim or non-Muslim.  * * * *  That person is not a perfect Muslim who eats his fill, and leaves his nybors  hungry.....  A man cannot be a Muslim till his heart and tongue are soft.... That person wise and sensible who subdues his carnal desires, and hopes for rewards; and he is an ignorant man who follows his lustful appetites, and with all this asks God's forgiveness. ...... God is gracious toi him who earns his living by his own labor, and not by begging...... God's kindness towards His creatures is more than a mother's towards her babe...... Faith is a restraint against  all violence. Let no Muslim commit violence..... The best of men is he from whom  good accrues to humanity..... All actions are judjed by the motives prompting them..... Riches are not from abundance of worldly goods, but from a contended mind.... No man is true, in the truest sense of the word, but he who is true in thought, word and deed.

        6.  TENETS  OF  GURU  NANAK  ( 1469 to 1539  AD ) :

God is one, God is love, God is unity.... All human beings are equal in the eyes of God.... Devotion to god, and, service to mankind, irrespective of caste, creed or color, are the duty of everyone  * * * *  One cannot comprehend Him thru reason, even if one reasoned for ages.... One can never buy contentment with the riches of the world.... One cannot reach God with mental ingenuity..... Our birth is the fruit of our actions; but liberation comes only by His grace. .* * * * The highest religion is to rise to universal brotherhood. To consider all creatures your equals. ...... Conquer your mind, for, victory over self, is victory over the world......  All are judjed according to their deeds. For, true is the Lord, and immaculate His Law. * * * *   Those persons who love and sow in their hearts, the seed of His Name, are liberated death and birth, again and again, and get salvation forever without pain. * * * *   There are five prayers:  The first is  truth. The second  what is right. The third  charity in God's name.  The fourth  good intentions.  The fifth   praise and glory of God.
* * * * *   As fragrance abides in the flower,  as the reflection is within the mirror,  so does the Lord abide within you. Why search for Him without ?   * * * * *   Impurity of the heart is greed. Impurity of the tongue is  falsehood.  Impurity of the eyes is  gazing on another's  wealth,  another's  wife and  her beauty.  Impurity of the ear is    listening to slander.

Well, this concludes the Centennial  Somvaar Sandesh  of  Wisdom Fountains. The Wisdom that has been sprung out of the Six  Fountains,  spanning  over a few millinea, from different sources,  and, projected from different angles, is  total and comprehensive, eternal, and true for all times, and has  the  sole objective of  making humans better beings, and afford them  peace and durable happiness.  However, to follow all the tenets, is surely not that easy, but,  one has to strive towards putting into practice as many of those words of Wisdom  as  possible.
