Mantena Satyanarayana Raju

03/15/10

'The best antidote to hatred  is   . . . . .   Love.
The best reaction to irritability is . . . . Patience.
The best response to anger  is  . .  .  . . . Silence.'
(Spring Leaves.   KMG)

Today's topic is " A Return  to Natural Way of Living ".
And, special for today,  Happy Ugaadi on 16th !

During the previous decade, a great crusade was begun in Andhra Pradesh for a better way of living, more conforming to Nature's way i.e., to be in tune with Nature. To better understand the demands of our body, its basic functioning and its basic needs, its self-protective (auto-healing) capabilities, and its built-in capacity to resist the external aggression of disease. To understand the easy natural ways by which one can maintain good health, without rushing to medicines and treatment (except of course in case of emergencies). The catchy slogan has been: "Your health . . . in your hands". The leader of this movement, the Crusader is one Dr. Mantena Satyanarayana Raju, based in Vijayawada in AP. A veritable Dynamo, an incredible Power-House, a person of boundless energy and enthusiasm, moving over the length and breadth of the State, giving discourses and organizing Camps, in promotion of his "Prakriti Jeevana Vidhaana" (Nature's Way of Living).  Also steeped in publishing innumerable books on  the subject, bringing out CDs and VCDs extolling his principles and proposals, regularly (almost daily) appearing on TV, and presenting demonstrations of Praanaayam and Aasanas, apart from his discourses. Also often demonstrating his novel culinary methods. It is difficult to believe that a single person could do so many things simultaneously. So dedicated  is he, with potential for achievement, that, it is said, he once took a week off from his routine works, and, almost non-stop, wrote four books in a row that week !

His presentations are lucid, rational, scientific and convincing, giving published data where needed. He reveals (as did others before) that the nearer one lives close to Nature, and observes Nature's Rules, farther one would be from ailments, and, would enable the disease-resisting inherent potentialities of the body to come into full play. He has become a household name in most of the Telugu homes (he speaks and writes in Telugu). One notable thing is, he states he practises everything on  himself before advising others. He is also available on-line in  web, and a few of his basic books have also been translated into English.

I propose to place before you the main ways of his approach, and, the most basic principles of his "Prakriti Jeevana Vidhaana", in this and the next despatches.
He mainly postulated the following Five Dharma-s ( Tenets) :

                    1.  Jala (Adequate water)  Dharma
                    2.  Aahaara ( Right food )  Dharma
                    3.  Vyaayaama (Physical exercise)   Dharma
                    4.  Visraanti (Rest and sound sleep)  Dharma, and
                    5.  Visarjana (Internal cleansing)  Dharma.
