Worry

02/22/10

Boris Becker. A great name in world of Tennis.  Thrice Wimbledon Champion. Retired in 1999. Then he seemed to have lost his cool. Said to have not only taken to sleeping pills and alcohol, but at one time, over six years back, in a moment of intense depresssion, one evening, is stated to have thought of ending his life ! Reason? Tension, stress (a modern name for worry), that he had slid down from top-ranking!
Worry. The most futile indulgence one can think of. It is a termite that eats into the very vitals of one's mind, makes it hollow, and, consuming all strength and fortitude, makes life utterly gloomy.  "Don't worry, be happy" is the usual counsel. But easier said than done. However, one has to somehow fight it out, and not succumb to it.  Today's  topic is WORRY.
Well now, something to worry about 'worry', and some tips for how not to worry! Here are some of my musings in this connection:
1.  When you are obsessed with worry, just tell yourself: "Whatever has happened HAS happened. If something CAN be done, let it BE done. Whatever will happen, WILL happen. There is an inscrutable DIVINE PLAN that OVERSEES everything. Why not RECONCILE to IT?  Of what use is this worry ?
2.  The best way to keep worry away, is to frequently ask oneself: "What is it that I CAN and HAVE to do right NOW, and how BEST can I DO it ?"
3.  Know that  none can cause you worry, without YOUR permission !
4.  An easy recipe for overcoming or mitigating worry in life, is to practice " TIE & TILL" formula!  (Take It Easy  &  Take It Lightly and Leisurely) !
5.   Worry is not an uncommon, but an undesirable, experience for anyone, sometime or other, in the course of one's life.  Here is an Eight-Point Formula, to mitigate or even overcome it:
(i)  Do not go on brooding over the past, by way of what you could or should have done earlier. It is a sheer waste of time, and, nothing comes out of it.
(ii)  Harbor not over-concern for the future, by way of anxiety over what is going to happen. You just cannot foresee.
(iii)  Develop Faith in a Higher Power that is guiding our Destiny.
(iv)  Remember the good things that happened earlier, and some that are perhaps happening even now in your life.
(v)  Realize that good things and bad, successes and failures, joys and sorrows, fulfillments and disappointments, --- are all part of life, and one has to take them all sportingly and nonchallantly.
(vi)  Do not take life too seriously; it is not meant to be! Life has its ups and downs. Hope for the light at the end of the tunnel. It is bound to come.
(vii)  'Expectation' is a potent  cause for worry. You often 'expect' something from someone, by way of a word or an act. If it is not forthcoming, you get upset and start worrying. Remember that people would not speak and act the way YOU  EXPECT them to do!
(viii)  Try to develop an attitude of just being a 'Witness' to all that is happening within you, and without. Learn to be and feel like a Spectator !
6.  However, for a person who does not listen to any of the above, and who constantly endeavours to seek out all possible venues to worry, Providence, in general, would indeed be kind, and bless with success, his or her such  endeavours!
Well, that's it  re worry!  Wishing you a happy week ahead, without any worry,
