Orchids from Vietnam

08/16/10

" Anybody can perhaps make somebody happy sometimes.
Somebody can perhaps make anybody happy sometimes.
Somebody can perhaps make somebody happy all times.
But, nobody can make  everybody happy  all times ! "

Once a while, it is not undesirable to have an opportunity to read and reflectupon some sort of 'Sookti Muktaavali, Hita Vaakyaavali' (words of wisdom, words that wish good for us,  guidelines for right living) to enable us to steer our lives in the right direction, to ensure peace and happiness for oneself, as also to those around us. Herewith are given some such lines, entitled  'Orchids from Vietnam', taken from a mail received sometime back. Ponder over them and try to assimilate :

    1.  Never deprive anyone of hope; it could be the only thing the person owns.
    2.  Don't make decisions when you are angry.
    3.  Watch your posture.
    4.  Don't pay for a job  until it is finished.
    5.  Beware of him  who has nothing to lose.
    6.  Learn how to say 'No'  courteously and promptly.
    7.  Don't expect life to be fair.
    8.  Don't hesitate to lose a battle, if it helps to win a war.
    9.  Don't procrastinate. Do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.
    10. Don't be afraid to say 'I don't know' and  'I am sorry'.
    11.  Watch the sunrise at least once a month.
    12.  Look people in the eye.
    13.  Say 'please' and 'thank you'  as needed.
    14.  Spend less than what you earn.
    15.  Do unto others  what you wish others do to you.
    16.  Learn how to keep secrets.
    17.  Own up your mistakes.
    18.  Always tell the truth.
    19.  Don't  repeat all you hear; don't say out all you think.
    20.  Don't  criticize people;  praise them when due.
    21.  Learn how to listen;  it is an art.
    22.  Don't believe all you hear.
    23.  Enjoy  beauty.
    24.  Don't  lose control anytime;  take a deep breath.
    25.  You are the way you breathe.
    26.  Meditate for thirty minutes every day.
    27.  Enjoy your free time.
    28.  Cherish  your  friends.
    29.  Be honest. Earn people's  respect.
    30.  You have the right to be happy.
    31.  Shed hate and rancour. they hurt YOU more than they do others.
    32.  There are things you cannot get back ... the spoken word, the time that has gone by, and, lost opportunities.
    33.  Do only one thing at a time.
    34.  Immortality exists. It is called 'knowledge'. Ask what you don't know.  Remember it when you are asked.
    35.  Discover pleasure in simple things:  Eating, breathing, walking, tasting, touching, seeing, sleeping .... .
    36.  Happiness is like a piggy-bank.  Put in it as much as you can.

God  bless  you !  "

Well, that's  it for today !   We must welcome whatever is good and soothing, from whatever source or direction may it come !
